Random thoughts about "An Evening of Magic Shop Memories"

Last Saturday, Jeff Pinsky hosted "An Evening of Magic Shop Memories" at The Browser's Den of Magic.

It was a lovely way to spend an evening!

We heard stories from:

  • Mike Segal
  • Greg Hobor
  • Richard Lyn
  • Nicole Lee
  • Dick Joiner
  • Mike King
  • David Sutherland
  • Gordon Precious -- who, as an added bonus performed 2 effects for us!
  • Colin Geddes
  • David Peck
  • Jeff Hinchliffe,
  • Sammy Jakubowicz, and
  • our host Jeff Pinsky

Stories told included Magic Masters, Daytona Magic, Macy's, The Arcade, The Den (on Bloor across from Varsity Arena, above Yuk Yuk's, Bathurst and Eglinton, and now!), Morrissey's (Montreal and Toronto) and even Marie & Jack Hughes living room in London, England!  They also included names like Sophie Smith, Len & Bernice Cooper, Herb & Dan Morrissey, Henry Gordon, Jay Sankey, Gary Kurtz, David Ben, Mark Lewis, David Mitchell, Danny Tsukalis, Steve Martin, Jim Carey, Keanu Reeves, and more!

Did you know that:

  • Bernice Cooper often baby sat a Toronto magician's son at the store?
  • Dick Joiner first saw Mark Lewis in England?
  • David Copperfield once ended his grand illusion show in Toronto with "What's Next?"
  • Keanu Reeves used to hang out at The Browser's Den of Magic?
  • There used to be a Canadian 25 cent bill!

Thank you older Jeff, for conceiving and hosting this wonderful evening of sharing!

Colin Geddes: Inspirational Canadian Magician

Colin Geddes: Inspirational Canadian Magician.

The Secret Cabal of Anonymous Magicians would like to nominate Colin Geddes of Toronto fame. Through his many hats worn as a board member of the Sid Lorraine Hat & Rabbit Club, he has helped to grow the membership of the club and created new opportunities for members to share magic, including a separate monthly get together which, unlike most magic lectures, features the consumption of alcohol and chicken wings at a nearby eatery. He has also chaired the talent committee which has brought many remarkable lecturers to the club including the legendary Paul Romhany, Bernardo Sedlacek, and John Bannon.

Submitted by the Secret Cabal of Anonymous Magicians

Welcoming a new Friend: Colin Geddes

Welcoming our newest Friend, Colin Geddes!

Colin is a Toronto based film producer and consultant, as well being as a curator at Shudder, the leading online streaming service for horror fans.  You may also be aware that from 1997 to 2017 Colin selected cutting-edge films for the Toronto International Film Festival, where he was in charge of the Midnight Madness and Vanguard programmes, specializing in diverse international genre cinema.

Colin is a newcomer to the Toronto magic scene, but is a passionate and avid magic enthusiast. I was pleased to strengthen our friendship during the plethora of online virtual presentations we attended over the past year.

Colin recently joined the Ring 17 executive as Vice-President, and now curates the club's social media.

You can learn more about Colin at his company's website Ultra 8 Pictures, or follow him Twitter, and Instagram.

Thank you Colin, for befriending Canada's Magic!
