Browser's Den 45th anniversary celebrations!

If you haven't seen it already, check out the Tuesday November 24th post Jeff P made at the Browser's Den of Magic Facebook page:

This is a long note...but a FUN note!

Part of the tradition at our annual shop anniversary party is a store wide discount. Well we would still like to offer you a discount for your overly kind support. Many of you have been part of the Browser's Den magic family for more than forty years!

From today until December 2, 2020 any orders (Curb Side, Phone, Online) will receive 10% off their purchase.

And for the first forty five purchases a special 45th Anniversary Gift will be included with your purchase.

The gift was specially made with love by Artemus Syman and his new 'The Magic Coffee Co.'

Plus for those first forty five purchases a draw will be held for one lucky winner of a special gift from The Magic Coffee Company and a Special Gift from Browser's Den of Magic.

Browser's Den turns 45!

From the November 3rd post in the Browser's Den of Magic Facebook group:

Dear Denizens,
This November is the 45th anniversary of 'Browser's Den of Magic'.
It is also the 25th year that Old Jeff took over the shop from Len and Bernice Cooper. Back then Old Jeff was Young Jeff and Young Jeff was Really Young Jeff.

Joking aside, for the past 45 years each November we have held a shop anniversary party. For obvious reasons this year we have to celebrate differently.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be making several eflyer announcements related to our 45th anniversary.

To start the celebration....

Toronto: Mysterion Store Visit & Cryptid Book Test

From the September 10th Facebook post by Jeff Pinsky:

(Limit of 5 people in Store at a time)

The Cryptids - $80 (SPECIAL PRICE!)

Mysterion has been telling us about this idea for some time, and it's finally happened! And he's got a special offer for you! Have you ever wanted to read minds? This book will give you that power.

Combining several different book test methodologies into a compact prop, The Cryptids is a miracle just waiting to happen! Here's some of what you can do with it:

  • Have any long word remembered, and slowly reveal the word letter by letter! This is the Mother-of-All Book Tests concept.

  • Have a word peeked at and instantly know it (variation of the flashback principle)

  • Ability to force a word and have it appear on a freely selected page

  • Reveal that you knew which Cryptid from a list of 100 in the book you knew would be 'randomly' selected

  • With a map of locations for famous Cryptids, they can take a journey to these exotic places yet you always know where they've ended up!

You get all of these great magic methods and more! The book can actually be examined and read. Also, by using a larger font you don't have to worry about your spectator not being able to see the word they've chosen. And the subject of the book is one that appeals to all ages and performing venues. Mysterion will be demonstrating the book during his visit and answering any questions you might have. He's also offered us a GREAT DEAL! The book normally retails for $99 US, but he's offering it to you for only $80 Canadian! That's a significant saving!

We look forward to seeing you!

Sad news from The Browser's Den of Magic

Updated at 5:15 PM to add:
  • From the Facebook post of Aaron Farberman:

For anyone who wants to watch
    Topic: Shawna Ross-York Funeral Service
    Time: Jul 23, 2020 10:00 AM Toronto

From the July 19th post by Jeff Pinsky at The Browesr's Den of Magic Facebook group:
Today was one of the most difficult days I have ever had at the shop.

Marvin York called me before we opened the magic shop to inform me that Shawna Ross York died last night... a couple of days after her knee surgery. She was only 54.

Shawna worked at Browser's Den of Magic for fourteen years.

And though she never learned how to do magic she became a part of the magic community.

She met her husband Marvin through the shop.

Shawna waited for the knee surgery for so long and now this disaster.

Life just sucks sometimes.

Jeff Pinsky, Browser's Den of Magic.

Leave your comments on Jeff's Facebook post.

Our sympathies to Shawna's family and friends at this difficult time.

Jeff Hinchliffe's "30 Minutes of Magic"

From the Browser's Den of Magic Newsletter:
Here's a note from none other than Mr. Michael Close about our new project:
As we all struggle through these stressful times, here’s a suggestion to help navigate the chaos: use your new-found time to do something good for yourself and to do something good for someone else.

The Browsers Den magic shop is offering you a way to do just that. Jeff Hinchliffe (young Jeff to all of you) will be offering a weekly, thirty-minute, online magic class. Jeff will not only discuss the “nuts-and-bolts” how of each routine covered, he will also discuss the “why,” which makes me happy because this has been the focus of my published work over the last thirty years.

So, for one reasonable price, you will be able to accomplish two laudable things: 1) you’ll learn some great tricks and improve your magic; 2) you’ll help out The Browsers Den, an iconic part of the magic landscape of the GTA.

Everyone is going to be challenged by this unprecedented global situation; for small businesses, in particular, it will be exceptionally precarious. Take this opportunity to do some good for yourself and someone else.

My name is Michael Close, and I approve this message.

Now stay away from me.
Michael Close

So to you our Loyal Denizens we are very excited to introduce...

30 Minutes of Magic!

30 Minutes of Magic will be a weekly DOWNLOADABLE video lesson taught by Jeff Hinchliffe (henceforth known as Young Jeff).

Saturday, February 22

We are very pleased to present to you a Brand New Lecture by Luiz Castro! As you many of you know Luiz is a construction worker by day and a Master Magician by Night.

Luiz will be sharing with you all types of magic. Whether you are brand new to magic or a seasoned magician you will find something at this lecture. Luiz will be covering almost all areas of magic and all levels of skill. So there really will be something for everyone.

For Luiz magic is a passion, a love. Whether it is a sleight, a prop, or a routine... if Luiz adds the Luiz Touch it is always better.

Luiz is also always willing to help. In fact we cannot list all of the people in the magic community that he has helped. He is a walking, breathing encyclopedia of magic! So this is a good opportunity to meet him at the shop.

For the last several years, Luiz has been the Chief Coin Worker for Mechanic Industries, including working on the development of their brand-new COLLUSION effect. Luiz has also been instrumental in developing and starring in the instructional videos for a variety of Roy Kueppers products.

Toronto: James Harrison lecture

In case you missed it, here are links to two recent highly viewed videos featuring James:

From The Browser's Den of Magic:
James Harrison Lecture
Saturday, January 11, 2020

Whether you are a hobbyist looking to learn a new skill, or a professional looking for a proven trick, don’t miss this rare opportunity to add pickpocketing to your repertoire!

After 20 years of performing close up, strolling magic, James Harrison has established himself as a pickpocket specialist.  He has shared his knowledge as an author for Street Magic Magazine, as well as at conferences and conventions across North America and Europe. His television show, Behind the Magic, aired on Rogers TV and his recent appearance on Modern Rogue has been trending on YouTube.

James will teach you how to interrupt and entertain any audience with the opening series from his strolling magic repertoire that lets everyone know that he is worth their time!

Tricks and topics include:

Repeat Card to Pen
A great repeat card to impossible location and Why it’s important to have more than just a Sharpie pen.

Wallet Pen
Wow a table with just a coin and pen with this series based off of Rune Klan, David Stone and Harrison’s own ideas.

Necro Tagged
A thought of word book test with a great scary story, still safe for corporate.

Card CollectionA great segue for handing out business cards – it is a card trick without playing cards!

Grift SenseA con man’s prediction of a spectator’s series of choices.

Ring to WatchIf you like Garret Thomas’ Ring Thing, you will love this perfect segue into pickpocketing.

PickPocketingWatch? Wallet? Cell phone? Anything that is not nailed down! How to deal with change in clothing styles. Who to choose, and more importantly, who NOT to choose!

"It's been a pleasure to work with James at one of the largest hackers convention in Vegas. I watched him explain the how to’s of pickpocketing to a packed room, and still steal off them mere moments later. Watch and learn from him now, while you still can, because soon the whole world will be booking him up.”
Brian Brushwood - host of Modern Rogue and Scam Nation

“I will highly recommend James Harrison’s knowledge and skills… an opportunity not to be missed out on” James Brown, Professional Opportunist

We look forward to you joining us on the 11th!
