Toronto: Lawrence Larouche and Cynthia Martin in State of Mind -- The Illusion of Choice [Apr 6 - 30]

From the Casa Loma website:

April 6th – 30th, 2023
Thursday – Sunday Evenings

The entire audience becomes part of the cast, partaking in several experiments that inevitably lead to remarkable conclusions. The Carriage Room Stage will feature Miraculum, created by famed mentalist Lawrence Larouche, is a doorway into a world of tantalizing mysteries. As members of the audience partake in the vast array of strange and bizarre experiments in the Carriage Room, they become more and more like mesmerized children playing in the magician’s back yard.  The performance awakens something within all of us that has been inadvertently left behind on the way to adulthood… the sense of astonishment and wonder. In the newly designed theatre space on the second floor of the Stables, world renowned magician Jeff Kaylor creates an unforgettable intimate experience for the audience.

Who inspires you that is not a magician?

I watch a lot of stand up comedy, I’m a big fan of Tom Segura and
Anthony Jeselnik.

What is your first memory of magic?

I saw a close-up magician at a restaurant when I was 9 years old. He
appeared to make things appear and disappear on the table in front of my eyes.

Who from the magic community inspires you?

David Blaine and Criss Angel both have a unique take on magic that broke the mold of what was popular before them.

Was there anyone or anything instrumental to you becoming a magician?

I met Andrew Gerard early on in my magic career, he‘s definitely been the biggest influence on my magic.

Did you ever get discouraged and think about quitting magic?

I enjoy performing on a regular basis, any time I take a break, I find
myself missing the art of performing.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

I always make sure there’s nothing stuck in my teeth.

What inspired you to be a part of this season of Canada's Got Talent?

I think the show is always looking for something different, and I’d
regret it if I didn’t try to show the judges what I can do.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Thank you for your time checking out my interview!

Thank you Will, for making the time to answer our questions!  Break a leg on CGT!

Steve Valentine co-producer of Scatman John biopic

From the March 28th article "Scatman John Feature Film in the Works (Exclusive)" by Alex Ritman at The Hollywood Reporter:

Tom Malloy (Lansky, Ask Me to Dance), founder of Trick Candle Productions, and Steve Valentine (MonsterHigh, The Walk) brokered the deal with Lee Newman, Larkin’s stepson, who handles the estate.

“Today, more than ever, John’s message resonates and needs to be heard,” said Valentine. “He was a true legend, tearing down barriers that would have deterred many from attempting to accomplish their dreams. We are excited to work on this project with Lee, and are honored to be bringing Scatman John’s story to the big screen.”
