This is also the day that we remember our founders Len and Bernice Cooper.

Jeff Pinsky purchased Browser's Den from Len and Bernice in 1995. Len passed away in 2003. And since then at each anniversary party we hand out in Len's memory a full set of eight Tarbell Course in Magic books to someone under 26 years of age who has shown a dedication to the art of magic.

Toronto: Lawrence Hass lecture and workshop

From the The Sid Lorraine Hat & Rabbit Club (IBM Ring 17) Facebook page:
You really don't want to miss this one.

Upcoming lecture for October 6th:
Lawrence Hass
Performing Magic with More Impact

WORKSHOP:
October 8th, 1PM. Enrollment will be limited.

There is an essential difference between performances that create an experience of magic and those that feel like “a trick.” For nearly twenty years Lawrence Hass has been writing and teaching magicians about this difference to help them create better, more impactful magic. His new book on this subject, Inspirations: Performing Magic with Excellence, has been receiving extraordinary praise from master magicians, such as Lance Burton, Mac King, and Juan Tamariz.

In this lecture for magicians Larry will share several fundamental ideas for increasing the impact of your magic by performing and teaching a number of real-world routines from his professional repertoire—routines that typically astonish magicians as well! Among the topics to be covered are: audience involvement, deep method, improving conviction, opening the show, among others.

Montreal: Shigeo Futagawa lecture

A reminder that you can also see Shigeo Futagawa lecture in Toronto.

From the Montreal Magic Jam:
Tuesday September 20, 2016

A close-up legend in his own country, for decades, Futagawa has energized Japan with his creativity, ingenuity, and love for sleight of hand. Japanese magic enthusiasts from all over flock to Yokohama, just to meet and session with him.

Furthermore, Futagawa has spent quality time with a multitude of phenomenal western magicians like Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings, Slydini, Max Maven, Geoff Latta, Michael Weber, David Roth, etc. when they came to visit Japan.

Now it’s our turn to spend time with Futagawa. And yet, we don’t have to travel fifteen hours across the ocean to do so. For the first time ever, Futagawa is coming to Canada.

[Guest post] Travis Bernhardt's "Charlatan!"

The following is a guest post from an author who wishes to be known as The Magic Demon.

--

Highly acclaimed Vancouver magician/mentalist Travis Bernhardt returns to The Vancouver Fringe Festival with his new show, "Charlatan!" .

Details:
https://tickets.vancouverfringe.com/shows/charlatan!/events

Vancouver's Georgia Straight is a big fan:
http://www.straight.com/arts/777711/vancouver-fringe-festival-review-charlatan

From Vancouver 24hrs:
One such trouper is the city’s own Travis Bernhardt — a young, lauded magician frequently awarded “Best of the Fringe” and “Favourite Picks” honours at festivals across the country. Wickedly clever and deceivingly nonchalant, Bernhardt’s shows often involve intricate, hour-long tricks within tricks.
This year, he’s upping the stakes.

Montreal: 44th Magic Collectors Weekend

From Magicana:
Magicana is delighted to bring the MCW to Montreal in May 2017. We will be staging this conference to coincide with the opening of the major magic exhibition, drawn from the Allan Slaight Collection of magic posters and Houdiniana, at the McCord Museum.

In fact, a large part of the conference will take place at the McCord Museum (which is located in the heart of downtown Montreal) where delegates will enjoy private tours of the exhibition and behind-the-scenes tours by curators and staff of the museum. The museum has an exquisite exhibition in the works, and MCW delegates will be the first to experience it!

The balance of the conference will be held at our convention hotel, the Delta Montreal which is, literally, around the corner from the McCord. And, as we have had in the past, there will be a broad range of speakers.

But space is limited! This event is restricted by the meeting capacity at the McCord, so we only have 125 places available. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

YTV's "Tricked" in the news

From the CBC:
P.E.I.'s Dave Moses is no stranger to the magic of television.

The writer/producer/actor has credits that range from the comedy Robson Arms to the gritty, real-life Emergency: Life & Death at VGH, set in Vancouver General Hospital's emergency room.

And then there's the surreal life of the upcoming Real Housewives of Toronto.

But he's now also involved in some actual magic on TV, thanks to the current show Tricked, airing on YTV.

From TV, eh?:
“We spent five months in Vancouver filming, and performed 300 tricks,” Leclerc says during a press day in Toronto. “It was the first time in my career where I was doing magic that I wasn’t choosing to be put out there.” Adapted from a series in the UK, Force Four Entertainment auditioned hundreds of magicians before picking the Ottawa-based Leclerc. He and a team of magicians came up with all-original tricks, created and worked with him to perfect them before unleashing the brain-twisters on the public in 20 episodes.

[Guest post] Can Canada's top mentalists fool Penn and Teller?

The following is a guest post from Clive Court.

--
MEET THE EVASONS---THEY READ A LOT OF MINDS IN WASHINGTON, D.C. BUT CAN THEY FOOL PENN AND TELLER?

TORONTO,Ont--(Sept.1)   The Evasons are a Toronto couple who make a good living reading the minds of corporate and political leaders on the U.S. East Coast.

On Wednesday, Sept.7, at 8pm.ET, they will challenge the famous Las Vegas magical duo on Penn and Teller:Fool Us! the popular primetime series on the the CW Network.

Recognized as one of the world's top mentalism acts, The Evasons appear to be part of an emerging trend which is bringing more magical and visual entertainers to primetime TV audiences in the United States.

Network TV series like NBC's America's Got Talent, CW's Masters of Illusion, and Penn and Teller:Fool Us! are introducing a greater number of magical and visual entertainers to North American viewers.  This, in turn, has meant more exposure for Canadian magicians.

Why is this?  Because Canadian magical entertainers are ranked among the best in the world by other nations. The Evasons are known worldwide for their second-sight act where a blindfolded Tessa describes in intimate detail the personal items held up by members of the audience.

Although based in Toronto and Annapolis, Maryland (just outside Washington,DC) Jeff and Tessa are in demand around the world as entertainers for major corporate and international conventions.

Born in Toronto, Jeff met Tessa in the early 80s while hosting a fashion show where she was a model. Tessa was working part-time while studying at Ryerson University. They have been together since 1983.

--

For further information, photos and video:  Please go to www.evasons.com.

NB.  A great example of a Canadian magician appearing on a US network primetime show was Winnipeg's Darcy Oake introducing guest artists from The Illusionists (on Broadway) on the August 31 edition of America's Got Talent.  Among the other Canadian magicians appearing on US primetime TV this summer were: Shawn Farquhar, Murray SawChuck, and Vitaly Beckman (from Vancouver); Mahdi Gilbert, Neil Croswell, Ryan Joyce, and Matt DiSero (from Toronto); and world-champion magician, Greg Frewin, from Niagara Falls.
