CanadasMagic.com is proud to present the 2024 Inspirational Canadian Magician Showcase.

Last, but certainly not least in this year's Inspirational Canadian Magician Showcase, is Julie Eng!

Julie was the director of Magicana for eighteen years and how much she's done there can't be overstated. Among other things, she played a huge part in the production and release of the Johnny Thompson books as well as the more recently monumental tomes of Eddie Dawes, both projects being of tantamount importance to magic's legacy. This year, she's taken the big leap to the executive director position at Genii Enterprises and now has the reins of MagicCol. I'm so excited to see what else she's got up her sleeve for the future..

Third up in this year's Inspirational Canadian Magician Showcase, is Marc Trudel!

He's a full-time pro and on top of doing every type of magic there is (and winning two Canadian Championships in his spare time), he also runs the Club de Magie de Montréal.  He's also been one of my partners in the Montreal Magic Jam, running events from lectures and shows to full conventions for the past two decades. Oh and did I mention along with his wife Sophie-Anne Vachon, he publishes Conundrum Magazine. The man is insanely busy but somehow his love of magic never waivers, and he is a big reason why the magic community in Montreal continues to thrive.

We were fortunate to see Marc both lecture and perform at this year's Browser's Bash and agree that the Canadian magic community is very lucky to benefit from Marc's talent and energies!

Montreal Magic Jam: Steph Lac and Derrick Chung lecture [Dec 2]

From the December 2nd Facebook event by the Montreal Magic Jam:

Hey gang,

Marc here, taking over the Montreal Magic Jam mailing list to tell you about an event you absolutely don’t want to miss.

After a bit of friendly arm-twisting, I’ve convinced my good friends Steph Lac (of Slim Card Co.) and Chung (from the legendary duo McSorley & Chung) to bring their one-of-a-kind lecture to the Montreal Magic Jam! These two are not only top-notch magicians, but they also have impeccable taste in both magic and whiskey—I can personally vouch for that! They’ve already showcased their lecture for some of the brightest minds in the U.S., and I wasn’t about to let them skip over their hometown without sharing this with us!

Here’s the scoop:
📅 When: Monday, December 2

Steph and Chung have each been doing amazing work for years, and now they’re teaming up officially for the first time. Steph will show off his skills in crafting gaffs and the underground world of card and dice manipulation—he’s even worked with legends like Sal Piacente and the late Fast Jack Farrell.
And Chung? He’s been a key player in Montreal’s magic scene for over two decades, creating some serious magic behind the scenes. His tricks have even made it into The Nacho Card Notes, which has been getting rave reviews. Between the two of them, expect some deep insights and practical tips you can put into action.

Bonjour! Hi! This lecture will be fully bilingual, with Steph presenting in French and Chung in English. Very Montreal, right?

Bonus! They’ll also have an exclusive set of lecture notes (more like a mini-book!) created by Sophie-Anne Vachon from Conundrum Magazine, available only at this event.

With two incredible lectures for the price of one, seats won’t last long! Reserve your spot now. You can easily pay via PayPal.

Can’t wait to see you there!

Marc Trudel and the Montreal Magic Jam team

Lee constantly gives back to the community. He's a sounding board for me and others working to elevate magic, encourages talent and is an invaluable resource for anybody who wants to know anything about playing cards. He doesn't sit on his laurels, and continues to be an integral part of the magic community.

Derrick inspired me by being open and available to many of my long-winded questions, queries and inquisitions.  He has a vast knowledge of card magic, a memory like a steel trap, and great taste in effects.  His book, The Nacho Card Notes, has a few of my favourite treats in there, including a delicious recipe for Queso to go with the aforementioned nachos.  As one of the organizers for The Montreal Magic Club, as well as for Shane Cobalt's Patreon group, I've been leveling up my magic through many lectures and Zooms he has helped bring about.

Montreal: McSorley & Chung Magic Hour [July 22]

From the Montreal Magic Jam newsletter:

Among the many things on our plate is the return of our critically acclaimed show the McSorley & Chung Magic Hour for a one-night only benefit for the Mount Bruno United Church (25 rue Lakeview St-Bruno-de-Montarville  QC J3V 2L4) on Friday July 22nd at 7pm (masks required). Review: Magic Hour Plus

From August 12th article "Magic vs Science" by Sean McQuaid in The Buzz:
Featuring university professors turned magicians Grant McSorley and Derrick Chung in the latest version of the popular McSorley & Chung stage magic show they created in 2016, Magic Hour Plus also stars the duo’s original director (and two-time Canadian magic champion) Marc Trudel, here playing the onstage role of an eager-to-please intern.

McSorley & Chung are amusing in their stage personae as bookish, cheesily self-aggrandizing showmen, often puffing themselves up with lofty rhetoric and then deflating themselves with self-effacing humour; but comedy-wise, Trudel steals the show as a socially awkward magic savant. All three excel at misdirection, not only shifting our focus to where each magician wants it, but also subverting expectations; seemingly botched tricks will morph into even cooler tricks instead, like Chung’s baffling Rubik’s Cube stunts.

Charlottetown: The McSorley & Chung Magic Hour PLUS!

From McSorley & Chung:
August 1-4, 2019
Charlottetown, PEI

Award-winning magicians Grant McSorley and Derrick Chung are bringing their magic to the island. Their show Magic Hour was a sensation at Montreal’s 2016 Fringe festival, selling out five shows. But never willing to leave well enough alone, they’ve updated the show with new magic, and are joined on stage by the multi-talented Marc Trudel.

The show features McSorley & Chung, two eccentric characters who don’t always see eye to eye. But they realized long ago, that despite it all, they need each other. This time around, they’ve reluctantly taken on an intern (2-time Canadian magic champion Marc Trudel). And the results are as absurd as they are magical. Watch McSorley & Chung (and Marc) dazzle you with their offbeat original miracles and their modern takes on old classics, in a show that you just don’t want to miss.
