An excellent synopsis of FISM 2022 by Ryan Joyce

From the August 3rd post "WOW! What a week! FISM Quebec 2022 was AMAZING! See Exclusive CAM photos." by Ryan Joyce at CAM:

Quebec City expanded artistic boundaries by introducing bold ideas and themes. A fresh spark of excitement has rekindled in the minds and hearts of magicians worldwide because of FISM Quebec 2022.

The six-day convention and competition brought together over thousand magicians from fifty countries and featured some of the best magicians worldwide. Simon Coronel and Laurent Piron become FISM Grand Prix Winners in close-up and stage.  Coronel presents an impossible linking card miracle, and Piron makes paper come to life on stage. Applause!

Making new friends, catching up with old friends and seeing extraordinary talented magicians did something wonderful to my soul. I know I’m not alone. Canadians should be proud of the historical mark FISM Quebec 2022 contributes and its influence on a new generation.

Hopefully, many of them will be Canadian.

The Canadian Association of Magicians is proud to acknowledge the efforts of our President, Renée-Claude Auclair, Pierre Hamon, the entire FISM Team and over one hundred and fifty volunteers that made FISM Quebec 2022 possible.

FISM 2022 in CBC News

From the July 29th upload "World’s best magicians gather in Canada for championship" by CBC News: The National:

From the July 28th article "The best magicians in the world are gathering in Canada this week" by Joseph Pugh at the CBC:

Two Canadians are competing this year, including Yannick Lacroix from Quebec and Cobalt, who will be competing in the close-up card magic category.

"I'm excitedly terrified," Cobalt told CBC News. He qualified for the championship after competing in an event last fall for the first time.

The Toronto-based magician says there is added stress and excitement when thinking about the audience.

"It's literally every great magician I grew up reading about … or ask[ed] for an autograph who's going to be in there now watching me do this act."

There's a lot on the line for the magicians, according to Canadian illusionist Greg Frewin.

"If you place even in the top three of this competition, your life changes," he says.

Frewin speaks from experience having won first place in the general magic category at the 1994 world championships in Yokohama, Japan. He currently performs shows at the Greg Frewin theatre in Niagara Falls, Ont., and has been training the next generation of magicians. One of his students, Ding Yang of China, is also competing at FISM.

"I can't give away what she does, but I will say this, there is one part of her act that nobody, male or female, has ever done and probably won't do for a long time because of the skill level and the skill set besides magic that it takes."

FISM in the news

From the July 21st article "Merlin à Québec" by Paul Fontaine in Le Deviour (translated by Google):

As of Monday, curious phenomena will agitate the city of Quebec. More than 2,500 magicians will appear in the Old Capital, ready to amaze young and old alike during the Quebec Magic Festival. Witchcraft activities will enchant the ExpoCité site and the Québec City Convention Centre, not to mention the shopping streets of Old Québec and Lower Town.

This carnival of illusion, which takes place from July 25 to 31, will host with great fanfare the World Championship of Magic of the International Federation of Magical Societies (FISM).

The “Olympics of Magic”

“It's really a historic first,” says Luc Langevin, spokesperson for the 11th edition  of the Festival. Met under the shadow of the forest giants of Square Sir-George-Étienne-Cartier, in Montreal, the illusionist well known to Quebecers struggles to contain his excitement.

From the July 14th article "Elora is indeed a 'magical' community" by Keegan Kozolanka in Elora Fergus Today:

Caesar said she looked forward to seeing a few tricks as she knows some magicians will leave her stumped how they pulled the trick off, which is rare as she claims to know most of the tricks of the trade.

“I’m overjoyed to finally have FISM come to North America specifically,” Caesar said, giving credit to current CAM president Renee-Claude Auclair. “I’m very grateful to Renee-Claude for having the foresight and energy to this done.”

“It’s a historic moment for Canadian magicians specifically but also North American because the FISM World Championship of Magic has never come anywhere west of the United Kingdom,” Joyce said.

FISM in le Soleil

From the May 18th article "Quebec will host the World Magic Championships for the first time" by Justin Staircase in le Soliel (translated by Google):

For the very first time, the World Magic Championships will be held in North America, in Quebec City, alongside the 11th Magic Festival, from July 25 to 31.

The championship will be held from July 25 to 30 and will take the form of several galas that will complement the magic festival that will be held in parallel. Ms. Auclair clarified at a press conference on Wednesday that the event was originally scheduled for 2021 before being canceled. One hundred and ten competitors are expected to participate in the competition, which will end with a gala of champions on July 30.

Renée-Claude Auclair believes that hosting such an event within the walls of Quebec could make the city one of “four or five essential destinations in the world of magic”.

THE SUN, PATRICE LAROCHE

Quebec will also host the eleventh edition of the Quebec Magic Festival, in partnership with the International Federation of Magical Societies (FISM). The spokesperson for this edition Luc Langevin detailed the “500 hours of free entertainment in the streets of Quebec, from Sillery to Limoilou” and “the 2500 magicians expected”. The magician also said he was proud to be associated with such an episode because “magic is family, everyone likes it”.

Show your support for FISM 2021 in North America

From Shawn Farquhar's Facebook page:
Hey magicians of the world... the presidents of your clubs will vote in less than a month for the next FISM in 2021. Wouldn't it be great if it was in North America for he first time? It would be even more amazing if it were in Canada!

I am thrilled to see that North America is a possible candidate to host the 2021 FISM World Championship of Magic! I can't think of a more amazing location or time to be coming to Canada. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I believe these producers would create an amazing experience we expect from FISM. I truly hope the many Presidents of the world magic organizations will see this as an opportunity to bring North American magicians into the FISM Family.

This is their Facebook page and it could use a ton of new LIKES, so why not pop over and do that, please. (oh and SHARE it too, so more magicians will do the same...thanks.
