Greg Frewin in the Niagara Falls Review

From the Niagara Falls Review:
It's no illusion that you're seeing double with Greg Frewin this summer.

In addition to a regular nightly show at his Ellen Ave. theatre, the Niagara Falls magician can also be seen on the CW Network's revival of Masters of Illusion. He was on the first episode of season 2 July 10, and appears in five upcoming segments, starting with Episode 3 Friday night.

Frewin filmed the episodes last February. Among the illusions he performs are the 'squishier' illusion and the 'glass sawing origami' illusion. In the season premiere he performed the 'sphere,' in which one of his dancers is placed in a container which is pierced with flame lit stakes. When the container opens, two dancers and a wolf emerge.

Greg Frewin on Masters of Illusion

It's worth noting that Murray SawChuck is listed too!  Does anyone out there know how we can get this channel in Canada?

From Dennis Schick, of the International Brotherhood of Magician's magazine, The Linking Ring:
Canada’s own Greg Frewin, who has his own theater and show in Niagara Falls, will headline the second season of “Masters of Illusion: Believe the Impossible.” The series will begin Friday, July 10, 2015, on the CW Network. It will air at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific times, and 7 p.m. Central.
Frewin is one of forty magicians who will perform during the thirteen-week series of thirty-minute shows. He will appear on six of the shows, along with Tommy Wind, more than any of the other magicians. He will lead off the first show, performing “Sphere.” On the third show, July 24, he will perform “Suspended Animation,” followed by a tiger production and “Shroud” in Episode Five, August 7.

Then in Episode Eight Frewin will do “Glass Sawing Origami,” followed by “Big Yellow Thing” on Episode Ten, September 11. Finally, he will present “Squisher” on Edisode Twelve, September 25.  The series will conclude the following week, October 2.

Among the other magicians appearing during the thirteen weeks will be Rick Thomas, Jeff McBride, Murray SawChuck, Ed Alonzo, Chipper Lowell, Nathan Burton, Jonathan Pendragon, Fielding West, John Gabriel, and YouTube sensation Piff the Magic Dragon.
\
The series is again produced by Associated Television International (ATI), which also produces a live touring version of Masters of Illusion. Co-producers include Gay Blackstone, the widow of the late Harry Blackstone, Jr., who died in 1997. Host for the series is popular television actor, Dean Cain, best known for “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.”

Interview with the World Grand Champion of Magic

Part one of the interview from the Greg Frewin Theatre:
We love sharing magical ideas with all our readers, from our favourite family movies to some easy magic tricks for kids. However, when it comes to magic, there's no better topic than Greg Frewin! So why not get an interview with the World Grand Champion of Magic himself? We sat Greg down (and trust us, it's not that easy! Between performing in one of the top Niagara Falls attractions, creating new illusions, building the sets, and enjoying time with his family, he's generally pretty busy) and got him to answer some questions about how he came to be a magician, what has inspired him, and how he creates his show.

You can find part two of the interview:
It's what you've been waiting for! It's the second part of our interview with the World Grand Champion of Magic, Greg Frewin. During part one of our interview, Greg outlined what influenced him when he was younger and figuring out what he wanted to become (if you haven't read part one, click here). Today, Greg will reveal some of the backstage elements of his show.

Boomer beats cancer

Niagara’s newest cancer survivor is hoping to get back to his regular weight soon. About 500 pounds or so.

Six and a half months ago, Niagara Falls magician Greg Frewin noticed his nine-year-old Siberian tiger Boomer acting a bit strange. Something on his right side was bugging him.
Closer inspection revealed a lesion which seemed to grow over the next week. Boomer, one of four tigers performing in his nightly magic show, was clearly agitated.

“We could tell he was licking it,” says Frewin. “He was trying to keep it clean. Something was not right.”

After a check with the vet, Boomer was sedated and the lesion cut open, which revealed “signs of a tumour.” A sample was analyzed and the bad news arrived shortly after – Boomer had cancer.

From CHCH:
We all know that wild tigers face extinction every single day from poaching and habitat loss. But what you may not realize is they can also get cancer. And there’s one cancer-stricken tiger in Niagara Falls that’s living a much healthier life than he would have in the wild thanks to his handlers.

In the wild, tigers live for about fourteen years. That number is doubled in captivity. Despite not being in a zoo, Boomer the tiger is one of those big cats who’s life was preserved thanks to the help of the people around him.

Family Fun Day with Greg Frewin

This is a great idea for families.  A nice early show for the kiddies and a rare chance at a Q&A with Greg himself!  (As you know, I think the experience is wonderful even without the Q&A.)  Don't just take my word for it, Yashy Murphy wrote about her experience too.  Read Murphy's post Greg Frewin's Imagine Magic Show!

Random thoughts about CAM-JAM 2013 Spring edition

  • Whenever I drive to Greg's theatre, it always rains on at least one leg of the trip.
  • I've been a CAM member for a long, long time.
  • One-handed cut-a-thons are a young man's game.
  • Evelyn and Phil Matlin from Perfect Magic are warm and terrific people!
  • I thought that I'd learned my last mind-blowing Linking Ring move from Tina Lenert earlier in the month.  Oscar Muñoz proved me wrong.  Twice.
  • Vincent Hedan tells me you can buy strawberry flavoured toothpaste.
  • Michael Dardant packs his hat very efficiently.
  • Thanks to Shawn Farquhar for coming up with idea and to Greg Frewin who generously offered us a meeting space and discounted tickets to his amazing show!

The CAM website has a nice write-up about this year's Magician of the Year, Mike Segal!  Congratulations Mike!

Go to the Perfect Magic blog to read Evelyn Matlin's thoughts on the weekend.

It was wonderful to meet up with so many of you!  If CAM-JAM Summer is anything like the Spring edition, it's sure to be a fantastic time!
