Magic is a performing art that entertains an audience by creating illusions of seemingly impossible or supernatural feats, using purely natural means. These feats are called magic tricks, effects or illusions.Magicana, through it's My Magic Hands program, touches the lives of children by using magic as a vehicle to build self confidence and skills such as communication, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving. They bring their wonderful program to children with cancer and kids affected by childhood cancer by working with Camp Oochigeas to create special events like "Boot Camp Magic Day." My Magic Hands has also been offering sessions at Holland Bloorview (Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital) for six years. It's obvious the joy that magic can bring into a young child's life.
What's not immediately obvious, however, are the other magical things that happen during this process. Friendships and mentorships are created between the volunteer magic coaches and the My Magic hands participants. Volunteers are reminded of childhood awe and joy as they catch a glimpse of how young eyes see and interpret the magical routines. The coaches facillitate the magic learning, bask in the glow of the magical relationship and reflect back to the children, the image of the best they can be.
Like a pebble thrown into a still pond, the magic of magic can extend far beyond the performer and the intended effect.
Thank you Magicana, for starting the ripple that extends ever outwards!
