The news is out! I’ve been nominated to win an award at FISM for BEST MAGIC PODCASTER. There was a going to be a way to vote, and as soon as I know how it works I’ll share it with you. But already it’s a big honor.

It’s also a great move for FISM to start thinking about other categories online that impact magic.

A call to action by Matt DiSero

Do yourself a favour and click through to read Matt's entire post.

Excerpts from the February 25th Facebook post by Matt DiSero (with minor edits):

It’s worthy of note that traditionally Just for Laughs hires a majority of its comedy talent from the US, though it enjoys Canadian tax breaks. They also get paid more and the US talent gains exposure to Canada's market, good for them but not great for Canadians building a career here.

...

Sadly, Most of us aren’t taken seriously as entertainers or artists until the US embraces us first. There are exceptions, but not many. I’m forever grateful to the US for doing that for me early in my career but it sure would be nice if we didn’t have to go there first only to come home.

...

Just my two cents, I try not to make political posts, I really do… But just this one time I hope you’ll forgive the intrusion. I think it’s time to bang the poutine, pour the maple syrup, and ride the moose out to the spotlight. Everyone wins.

Chris Ramsay FISM artist, and One Ahead interview

But the question naturally follows: Does an online FISM category translate to higher levels of attendance, and more importantly, a longer-term desire to upkeep and cultivate the event for future generations?

Ramsay believes this can only happen if changes are made to the fundamental structure of the event:
