Darcy Oake in Business Review Canada

You may remember the May post with the commercial in question.  Do you also remember that last year Wendy's did a magical ad campaign

From Business Review Canada:
In an attempt to get their new frozen chocolate drink noticed, the fast food company has decided to take part in a new marketing technique—a prank ad campaign. In short, Tim Hortons has implemented the act of levitation in attempt to get consumer’s attention.

The franchise’s new chocolate drink—which has arrived just in time for summer—can be seen alongside Canadian magician Darcy Oake and two local actors.

Society of Young Magicians in the Winnipeg Free Press

With nice mentions of Carey Lauder, Dan Wiebe and Graham Wiebe!

From the Winnipeg Free Press:
Many years ago Santa Claus gave a magic set to a child. That girl learned almost every trick in the set. When spring arrived, she performed a magic show for her friends.

A visit to the Society of Young Magicians stirred those magic memories. Chapter 7 of the Society of Young Magicians meets every second Saturday from mid-October to the end of May at Riverview Community Centre.

Instructor Graham Wiebe teaches a class of seven-to-nine-year-olds and, following a short break, a group of 10-to-16-year-olds.

The day I attended, the classes were performance workshops whereby students performed a trick in front of an audience made up of Wiebe, his father Dan (who became involved with the Society of Young Magicians when he drove his son to meetings), parents, classmates and me.

Mike Conway in CBC News

From CBC News:
A local St. John's magician is testing out his new Las Vegas-style act this week at Prince of Wales Collegiate ahead of his big gig at Holy Heart Theatre next month.

Mike Conway has been a performing magician for years, but this summer he's unveiling some bigger tricks — with bigger props.

However, he said his act isn't about the gadgets, it's about the magic of the show itself.
"People can get into this stuff. It's not about, you don't know how this works, ha-ha. It's like, enjoy this, relax, it's magic, don't take it too seriously, have a great time," he said. "That's what it's all about."

Darcy Oake in the Nottingham Post

From the Nottingham Post:
As the latest series of Britain’s Got Talent draws to a close, Canadian magician is another contestant proving that you don’t need to win it for the show to kickstart your career. Kevin Cooper spoke to him ahead of a UK tour that includes his first date in Nottingham

It was a card trick his dad showed him when he was eight years old that set Darcy Oake on his journey into the world of magic and illusion.

Over here, we’d never heard of the Canadian until he appeared on last year’s Britain’s Got Talent but by that time he was already an international magic champion. At 16, he beat seasoned professionals at various events and ended up winning the coveted People’s Choice Gold Medal in Seattle.
