Canadian Artists and Content Creators Economic Survey

From the Canadian Heritage section of the Government of Canada:

The Department of Canadian Heritage is inviting all artists and content creators to participate in the Canadian Artists and Content Creators Economic Survey. The purpose of this survey is to help create an updated portrait of the artistic and creative community in Canada. This data gathering is important to help ensure policies and programs continue to be responsive to the sector’s reality.

Share your story!

The survey will help develop a better understanding of the realities and experiences of artists and content creators in Canada prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How to participate?
The survey is available online from May 10 to June 18 and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous.

Who should participate?
Anyone in Canada aged 16 or older who does creative or artistic work as an important component of their professional identity, whether on their own time, freelance or with organizations — either full-time or alongside other jobs, at any point in their career stage.

The survey is open, but not limited to:

  • writers such as fiction and non-fiction book authors, playwrights, poets, screenwriters, technical writers
  • visual artists such as painters, craft artisans, designers, illustrators, installation artists, video game designers, concept artists, photographers, printmakers
  • performing artists such as actors, choreographers, circus artists, comedians, dancers, mimes, puppeteers, spoken word artists, storytellers
  • musical artists such as composers, musicians, singers, songwriters
  • audiovisual directors working in film, television, video games or other digital media productions, including on social media

TBT: Quincy Li appears on Big Trick Energy

Throwback to last Thursday, actually.  Watch Big Trick Energy pull off a personalized illusion for Quincy, owner of the brick and mortar magic shop Clownin' Around in BC.  (Video at bottom of post.)

(New episode of Big Trick Energy airs tonight on truTV!)

From Wes Barker's May 7th Facebook post, watch some of the prep work for Quincy's cameo:

[Editor's note:  Addendum to the dialogue in the clip below, at present there are only TWO Canadian brick and mortar shops that are 100% dedicated to magic.]

Session with Shawn [May 16]

From the May 1st Facebook post by Shawn Faquhar:

On January 3rd I held my last Session with Shawn and at that time I promised I would do another soon. Okay, time slipped away on me and we're already in May! I am once again offering a Session with Shawn on May 16th at 1:00 PM PDT, that's 4:00 PM EDT and 10:00 PM CET.

For the first time ever I am including $30 in downloads as part of the Session. If you had wanted to attend and weren't able to because the previous ones all sold out in days... here's your chance.

To be clear, this is not a performance, nor is it a scripted lecture. This is a hands on Session where I will share many of my favourite effects, current and unpublished as well!
You can find out more at the ticketing page which is in Canadian funds.  Tickets are $40 Canadian and include $30 US in downloads... kind of a deal. 😉

Most likely the last time I will be doing this kind of virtual session, FYI.
