Richmond: Murray SawChuck

Murray SawChuck, is coming to River Rock Show Theatre on Friday, October 27, 2017.

From Ticketmaster:
Murray SawChuck, one of the most sought after viral magicians with over 500 million online views, is coming to River Rock Show Theatre on Friday, October 27, 2017. Hailing from Burnaby, BC, Murray is returning to his hometown for one show only. Murray made his mark as a household name when he exploded onto the entertainment scene after his successful run as a semi-finalist on NBC-TV’s “America’s Got Talent.” He impressed judges by producing a Ferrari car from thin air, transforming a girl locked in a cage into a 450 pound tiger and did the largest trick ever on the show by vanishing an entire steam train locomotive in mere seconds.

Murray Hatfield in The Georgia Straight

From The Georgia Straight:
Murray Hatfield’s career trajectory was set back at his childhood home in Calgary, when he saw a 13-year-old magician perform at his younger brother’s birthday party.

“Well, I’m in my 50s now, and I still haven’t had a real job,” the Victoria-based magician tells the Straight over the phone.

Starting this week, Hatfield is producing and performing in Unbelievable! A Magical Experience, with nightly shows at the PNE’s Pacific Coliseum. He’ll be joined on-stage by colleagues Chipper Lowell, Shawn Farquhar, and Danny Cole—as well as his wife, Teresa, Hatfield’s on-stage partner and creative collaborator.

Victoria: 3 of clubs 2017

From the 3 of Clubs Convention:
October 27-29

Special guests:

Paul Romhany
Paul Romhany got his start in his native New Zealand, earning his degree in music from Auckland University. A piano certificate from London’s Royal College of Music followed, but Paul’s passion remained in theatre. Soon he was travelling the globe performing to universal acclaim and recognition with such awards as Entertainer of the Year in his home country and International Gold Medal Magic Champion in 2004.

Matt Marcy
Matt Marcy has spent the last 15 years performing around the world as a comedy-magician and emcee. With over 3,000 shows under his belt, he’s entertained everyone from Hollywood celebrities to CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies to royalty. Matt has made a name for himself by combining his unique style, quick wit, and completely original magic and illusion, and is a regular entertainer for corporate and private events, as well as for clubs, theaters, hotels, casinos, colleges, and cruise ships. He is also a favorite at the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, having performed over 1,000 shows at the exclusive magicians’ clubhouse. Matt is the creator and performer of the acclaimed theater show “Disillusioned: Confessions of a Serial Magician.” As one reviewer put it, “Matt is one of the most original comedy magicians I have ever seen. His performance is nuanced, goofy, broad, full of humor on multiple levels, and his magic is baffling to the point of swearing off drink forever.”

Suzanne The Magician
Audiences all over the country have been falling in love with Suzanne since 1985. She resides in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and can be see locally there at Mad Jack’s Sports Cafe in Brooklyn Park and Vadnais Heights and at Birch’s Restaurant and Bar in Long Lake.

Her engaging style makes the audience an essential participant in her performance. Other respected professional magicians have called her “flawless” and “amazing”. She is a favorite at Hollywood’s famous Magic Castle and was awarded Close Up Magician of the Year for 2010 by The Academy of Magical Arts. Her specialty is close-up magic for corporate and private events.

Vancouver: Anthony "Magic Tony" Barnhart workshop

From the Vancouver Magic Circle Facebook page:
Special Workshop Alert!

We have a special workshop happening THIS THURSDAY June 22 at our General Meeting titled: The Science of Magic with Doctor Anthony Barnhart.

Anthony "Magic Tony" Barnhart is an Assistant Professor of Psychological Science at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He received his Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from Arizona State University, where he began his graduate career with the intention of being a language researcher. To this end, he has published research examining the processes underlying handwritten word perception, a domain that has been largely ignored by psychologists. However, Tony is also a part-time professional magician with over 20 years of performing experience. His research trajectory changed in 2010 with the publication of the book Sleights of Mind: What the Neuroscience of Magic Reveals about our Everyday Deceptions, in which he was featured as a consultant and teacher on the science of stage magic. The scientific interest that the book garnered motivated Tony to shift his focus toward the interface of science and magic. His work on the science of magic has been featured in Science News For Kids as well as in national and international television appearances and documentaries, most recently appearing in the Science Channel’s “Hack My Brain” program. He has also developed a semester-long course on the Psychology of Magic that was featured on the James Randi Educational Foundation's Swift Blog. As a performer, he employs psychological principles to elevate his magic’s impact and increase the audience’s sense of wonder.

New Westminster: David Groves lecture

From Shawn Farquhar's Facebook post:
Wednesday June 14, 2017

My local magic club, celebrating its 75th anniversary is hosting a lecture.

The Vancouver Magic Circle is proud to welcome DAVID GROVES to the 2017 Lecture Series!

Our beautiful raked lecture hall allows for optimal visibility in ANY seat, as well as an individual writing surface. (or TWO if you spread out)

David Groves has lectured in 90 cities around the world, from New York to Las Vegas to Anchorage to Dublin to Sydney to Hong Kong and beyond. He has a broad range of magic to draw from. He will be teaching card, coin, restaurant, mentalism, and of course, street magic tricks.

His 1998 book, Be a Street Magician: A How-To Guide, covered busking, and he has lots of tricks that work great in that venue as well. With outside-the-box thinking (like offbeat index work and advanced psychological ploys) everyone will walk away from the lecture with something valuable.

He has inherited one-of-a-kind work from his great-uncle, a professional gambling cheat in the 1940’s. The highlights of his mentalism are his center tear, his magic square, and his pre-show work.
He has even developed a sure fire way for tableside workers to DRAMATICALLY INCREASE THEIR TIPS, which is a ploy backed up by scientific research. Much of that work is contained within his massive new 400-page e-book, The View from the Red Spot.

David Regal called his closer “the best ending to a show I’ve seen in years.” and he will be performing this for us at the lecture!

Brandon and Prince George: Ty Reveen

See Ty at the WMCA in Brandon on March 25 and in Vanier Hall in Prince George on April 1st.

From the Prince George Citizen:
Pushing the mental buttons of Canada is now a best-selling tradition for one Canadian family.

Like his father before him, the name Reveen is now being worn by a hypno-entertainer who is touring the nation, wowing audiences from coast to coast with a combination of comedy and feats of the human mind.

Organizers call the Reveen experience "the most popular show in the history of Canadian theatre," for its longevity and public appeal over the two generations it's gone on. An estimated audience of more than six million viewers have taken in the first generation of performances, and now those numbers are set to grow.

The show will be held March 31, April 1, 7, and 8 at the York Theatre in Vancouver, and will feature classic illusions from historic magicians, something that Camilo said is a step away from his illusionary roots.
