From Las Vegas to Barcelona and from London to Vienna. Steve Beam has lectured all over North America and Europe. His lectures feature the latest in sleight of hand interwoven with the hottest semi-automatic magic from the guy who coined the term. The magic is designed and presented with the audience in mind – magic that will enthrall and entertain.
You will learn clever principles, witness devious subtleties, and experience eye candy with a purpose. All of this while seeing how these ingredients can form more than just tricks. Beam has created well over a thousand magic effects. In addition to publishing The legendary Trapdoor magazine for 15 years (1983-1998), writing 10 volumes of Semi-Automatic Card Tricks, he has published effects and articles in dozens of other magazines throughout the world. He not only creates and publishes his own magic; he also performs and teaches it. So, pull up a chair, take a card, sit back, and prepare to be amazed.

A close-up legend in his own country, for decades, Futagawa has energized Japan with his creativity, ingenuity, and love for sleight of hand. Japanese magic enthusiasts from all over flock to Yokohama, just to meet and session with him.
Furthermore, Futagawa has spent quality time with a multitude of phenomenal western magicians like Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings, Slydini, Max Maven, Geoff Latta, Michael Weber, David Roth, etc. when they came to visit Japan.
Now it’s our turn to spend time with Futagawa. And yet, we don’t have to travel fifteen hours across the ocean to do so. For the first time ever, Futagawa is coming to Canada.
Magicana is delighted to bring the MCW to Montreal in May 2017. We will be staging this conference to coincide with the opening of the major magic exhibition, drawn from the Allan Slaight Collection of magic posters and Houdiniana, at the McCord Museum.
In fact, a large part of the conference will take place at the McCord Museum (which is located in the heart of downtown Montreal) where delegates will enjoy private tours of the exhibition and behind-the-scenes tours by curators and staff of the museum. The museum has an exquisite exhibition in the works, and MCW delegates will be the first to experience it!
The balance of the conference will be held at our convention hotel, the Delta Montreal which is, literally, around the corner from the McCord. And, as we have had in the past, there will be a broad range of speakers.
But space is limited! This event is restricted by the meeting capacity at the McCord, so we only have 125 places available. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

GrantMcSorley & Derrick Chung aretwo
scholars in engineering and mathematics, respectively, whose 10+ years
friendship grew out of a love of magic while working together
behind-the-scenes for renowned magicians.
With years of magical knowledge, part of which were imparted by some
of the best illusionists in the world, they debuted their first
two-person show at the Black Theatre Workshop last Friday and played a
sold-out show on Saturday, where they amazed audiences with their twists
on the effects that have sparked their own love for the craft.
Complemented with their teaching backgrounds, their approach to the
realms of the known and the baffling has always been to engage their
audiences and pupils.
None of that male chauvinism of lovely assistants as eye-candy, no
boxes sawed in half. This is stripped down sleight of hand
prestidigitation down to its fundamental basics, performed in front of
an intimate crowd reminiscent of parlor sessions during the heydays of
vaudeville. Feel like a kid again full of wonderment, this is magic
accessible to all!
I had the chance to nerd out with these two about magic & the known realm…
We are very pleased to announce a lecture and workshop with renowned
sleight-of-hand expert Jason England. He is considered one of the
world’s foremost experts on sleight-of-hand and advantage play with
cards. He has over 25 years of experience both performing magic and
consulting on casino game protection.
The three-hour lecture will cover tricks and routines with cards mixing magic and gambling material.
Jason will also offer a four-hour workshop for a limited group for
individual attention. Limited to 15 participants, Jason will focus on
the mechanics of individual sleights like second deals, bottom deals and
false shuffles. If there is a particular technique you are interested
in, please let us know.
