McSorley & Chung Magic Hour interviewed at Bad Feeling

From Bad Feeling magazine:
Grant McSorley & Derrick Chung are two scholars in engineering and mathematics, respectively, whose 10+ years friendship grew out of a love of magic while working together behind-the-scenes for renowned magicians.

With years of magical knowledge, part of which were imparted by some of the best illusionists in the world, they debuted their first two-person show at the Black Theatre Workshop last Friday and played a sold-out show on Saturday, where they amazed audiences with their twists on the effects that have sparked their own love for the craft. Complemented with their teaching backgrounds, their approach to the realms of the known and the baffling has always been to engage their audiences and pupils.
None of that male chauvinism of lovely assistants as eye-candy, no boxes sawed in half. This is stripped down sleight of hand prestidigitation down to its fundamental basics, performed in front of an intimate crowd reminiscent of parlor sessions during the heydays of vaudeville. Feel like a kid again full of wonderment, this is magic accessible to all!

I had the chance to nerd out with these two about magic & the known realm…

Montreal: Ravi Mayar lecture

From Montreal Magic Jam:
Monday April 18

Our next lecturer will be the fantastic Ravi Mayar. Ravi was actually a Montrealer for a good part of his life, but is now based out of the UK, and we’re happy to welcome him home. Ravi will be presenting his No Cards Lecture, based on the material from his DVD Storyteller, a collection of visually stunning, organic magic effects. The lecture will also include material from his first DVD set, Collisions, as well as an intro to his hypnosis technique and the real work on pickpocketing! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn material not usually taught in magic lectures, and is not to be missed!

Montreal: Jay Sankey lecture

Monday March 14
Teacher, performer, consultant, and author, Jay Sankey is widely considered to be one of the most original thinkers and most prolific magic creators on the planet. Jay has created over 700 original magic effects. And he’s coming home. He’s also consulted for tons of magicians from David Copperield to David Blaine, and Max Maven called him ““one of the top creators of innovative close-up magic.”

After a long time away from Montreal, he’s finally back. The lecture will be pure unadulterated fun as only Sankey can deliver. There will be a mix of everything from close-up, stand-up, and mentalism. He’ll perform and teach a few of his classics as well as some diabolical new creations. There will be something for EVERYONE, and almost everything he’s teaching will require only the most basic sleight-of-hand. You don’t want to miss the force that is Jay Sankey.

Montreal: 2017 Magic Collectors Weekend

From Magicana:
This is a preliminary announcement that we plan on staging the Magic Collectors Weekend May 25 to 27, 2017 in Montreal, Canada.

This will coincide with the opening of the major exhibition of magic posters from the Allan Slaight Collection at the McCord Museum. The exhibition, for which David Ben is the guest curator, will open that very weekend.

In addition to private tours of the exhibition, we will be working with the McCord on some additional programming and events – including some behind the scene access to elements related to the  exhibition. Given Houdini’s connection to Montreal – and, in fact, the McCord – there will certainly also be some Houdini on the bill.
